What are priority and non-priority debts?

Only non-priority debts can be included in a Debt Management Plan (DMP) so it is important for you to understand which debts fall into this category.

Generally, priority debts are debts that have serious consequences if not repaid on time. For example, if you do not repay your rent, you could be evicted, or if your utility bills are not paid, your service could be interrupted.

Below we have listed debts that fall into priority and non-priority categories as a guide. For a definite list, or to find out whether the debts that you need help with can be included in a DMP, please complete our DMP enquiry form and a debt advisor will call you back to help.
